Just an Ordinary Girl
Ch. 3: All sorts

“When I call your name,” said the old woman, “You will step up to the platform and the Sorting Hat will be placed on your head.” She untied the scroll, and then, “Anyet,Yuri.”
A muscular boy with sandy hair and grey eyes stepped up. Once the dirty old hat was on his head, “HUFFLEPUFF!” The table on the far left hand corner, covered with furnishings of Yellow, boomed with applause. “Black, Narcissa.” A very blonde girl went to the platform. “SLYTHERIN!” The table on the right hand corner, covered in green furnishings, boomed as well. “Black, Sirius,” A black haired boy stood up. To the surprise of a few children on the Slytherin table, the Sorting Hat took its time. All of a sudden “GRYFFINDOR!” The table with red furnishings had applauded. In fact, a few even mocked some Slytherins. “Croft, Hazel,” A girl with mousy brown hair stepped up. “ HUFFLEPUFF!” Yet again, the yellow table boomed. “Detta, Sarah,” With red hair trailing behind her, she stepped up. “RAVENCLAW!” The table with blue finishings, in between the Gryffindor and Slytherin tables, clapped proudly. “Evans, Lily.” Red hair, much deeper than Sarah’s, followed her. After mere seconds, numbering 10, “GRYFFINDOR!” Elphaba’s attention was diverted for a while, and then she heard the name “Lockhart, Gilderoy.” A boy, an obvious narcissist, stepped up. “HUFFLEPUFF!” Yet again, Hufflepuff emerged in applause. A boy with mousy hair stepped up at the words, “Longbottom, Frank.” Afterwards, “GRYFFINDOR!” What she didn’t notice was that the Gryffindor seemed a lot bigger than before. It wasn’t long before she heard the name “Lupin, Remus.” Her eyes were plastered as she watched her friend timidly step up. He looked back for a moment, a look of insecurity and fear on his face. He made eye contact with her, amber eyes meeting violet, and immediately, after nodding confidently, stepped up. For a moment, she heard the hat mumble, “that took guts, kid. GRYFFINDOR!” The Gryffindor table erupted in applause. Even Elphaba, who hadn’t even been sorted yet, broke out in applause. “Merst, Alice.” The old woman called out. A girl with blond, wavy hair stepped up. “GRYFFINDOR!” How many children did Gryffindor have? Was Elphaba going into Gryffindor as well? “O’Griffith, Denise,” she heard. A girl with blond curls stepped up. “SLYTHERIN!” The Slytherin table, which had a lot of kids as well, erupted in applause. Although in lightning fast pace, Pettingrew Peter, and Potter, James had been sorted into Gryffindor. “Snape, Severus.” A boy with deathly pale skin stepped up. “SLYTHERIN!” The Slytherin table erupted in applause. “Thropp, Elphaba,” she heard. “Who gives their child that name?” “Is she green?” “Is she okay?” she heard. There she sat, hiding under black hair.“Don’t worry,” she heard the Sorting hat say. “We’ll find a place for your mind,” Maybe she was going into Gryffindor, with Remus. Maybe. . . “RAVENCLAW!” Aw, screw it, she thought as she stood up and went to the Ravenclaw table. Oh, what a blast school will be.

"1973 October 13,
Today, I am 14. I don't know if I should be held back or not. Oh, well. Anyway, I finished Les Miserables
in my free period in Charms. It was so sad. Valjean was going to die unremembered. Maybe I feel that I'll be unremembered when I die. I mean, who's going to remember a girl with green skin? Well, Remus, the person who gave me the book, might."

Well, nothing prevents it.

"27 November, 1972. Obviously, James and Sirius were bullying Severus again. Those two seriously need to mature. And to top the whole day off, there was some little spat that I had with a first year named Barty. He took my diary and read it in some little procession thrughout the entire castle. How am I going to cover up every paragraph about Remus now?"
